Here’s something some of you might not know: I am a web designer/developer who outsources graphic design and branding services.
And I’m going to tell you why this is rad news for your business and why it will save you money.
Here’s the deal. Per one of my favorite books, Gay Hendrick’s “The Big Leap,” we all have:
A zone of genius (things we’re a natural genius at, drawing upon our special gifts + strengths)
A zone of excellence (stuff we’re great at)
A zone of competence (things we’re okay at which others can do just as well)
A zone of incompetence, a.k.a. suckiness (for me, anything to do with putting together furniture or wearing stilettos)
Now, I’ve studied web design, web development, and branding and used Illustrator, Photoshop, and many other tools over the years, and this is what I’ve learned:
My zone of genius lies in web development (writing code using languages specific to the web and using the best tools to ensure the site works smoothly — this is why I’m so anal about specifics and ask lots of questions!) followed by web design (using principles of design and the graphics my designers make for my clients to create a killer look + feel for the website and make it user-friendly).
Graphics and branding? Ehh… those I’d say fall more in my zone of competence. And since I don’t want to give you a shitty product, I let graphic design experts and branding experts do that part, so I can do what I’m an expert at.
The value of working with a specialist vs a do-it-all
So what’s the value of working with a specialist vs a do-it-all?
When you hire Website Superhero, every element of your website is put together by a specialist in their field.
In other words, instead of having one person half-ass every element of your website, you have a few people all full-assing your website. In even more words, every aspect of your website will have been crafted by someone who knows their shiz, so you won’t end up needing to spend money later to fix someone’s mistakes.
